Position Overview:
Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our
Analytical Development group in Boston, MA.
As a member of the Analytical Development team, this role will support
the drug development programs at Vertex through analytical method development,
validation and transfer efforts, with special emphasis on drug substance
support, drug product support or both. Expertise in laboratory techniques
commonly used in the analysis of pharmaceutical products, especially HPLC, is
required.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop methods to determine
potency, purity, and stability for drug substances and/or drug products
- Set drug substance and drug product
specifications with the understanding of clinical study design and CMC processes
- Justify and set retest period,
storage, and shipping conditions
- Understand drug substance and
drug product development to independently provide requisite analytical support
- Identify critical
in-process-control issues and develop appropriate IPC methods
- Design stability studies for
drug substance and drug product
- Design validation protocols
that are appropriate for validating methods for their intended use.
- Present to cross functional
teams and effectively communicate critical analytical issues and solutions
- Develop and review source
documents for regulatory submissions
Basic Qualifications
- A Ph.D. degree in the life or physical sciences with a
preference for a concentration in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or
Pharmaceutical Chemistry
- Minimum Experience: 0 - 3 years current and relevant
industry experience working in drug substance and drug product support
- Understanding of the drug development process, including chemical
development and formulation development, is essential
- Good understanding of ICH and FDA method validation
guidelines are essential. The ability of
to understand the guidelines in context of development phase is preferred.
- Good understanding of GMP and hands-on GMP experience as
well as how to develop GMP friendly methods is preferred.
- Skilled in HPLC, GC, FT-IR, UV-VIS, KF, dissolution and
other instruments is essential. Strong
expertise in HPLC is preferred.
- The ability to work successfully in both a team/matrix
environment as well as independently is essential
- The ability to work in a fast pace environment, manage
priorities, and maintain timelines for multiple projects is essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as
demonstrated by symposia presentations and research publications in peer

Internship: Eastern Research Group
Job Posting:
Eastern Research Group, Inc. (ERG) is hiring paid interns
to support an onsite project being conducted at the Agency for Toxic Substances
and Disease Registry (ATSDR) in Atlanta. The work will involve data entry for
an important environmental health investigation being conducted by ATSDR, and
those we hire must have a keen eye for detail, familiarity with reviewing and
interpreting environmental sampling data (preferably groundwater, air, and/or
soil vapor), and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Database
management skills are also very desirable.
Candidates must have a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in
environmental engineering, chemical engineering, environmental public health,
earth and atmospheric sciences, mechanical engineering, or related field.
Positions are open to graduates and graduate students. We expect the work to
start in the August-September time frame and to last until June 30, 2016.
Ideally, candidates will be able to work full-time for the duration of the
project, but other schedules will be considered (e.g., part-time during the
school year). Compensation will be commensurate with experience, starting at
$20/hour.
All work on this project will be conducted at the ATSDR
campus, and thus, all hired employees must undergo a background check to obtain
a security clearance prior to starting work. This is an excellent opportunity
to see first-hand the scientific processes that ATSDR goes through when
evaluating the public health implications of exposure to environmental
contamination.

Description
PTD Module Engineers are
responsible for leading scientific research and enabling manufacture of
innovative device architectures coupled with the realization of these
architectures. Responsibilities include designing, executing and analyzing
experiments necessary to meet engineering specifications for their process. A
Module Engineer participates in the development of intellectual property and
the development of the equipment necessary to exploit understanding gained in
research (in collaboration with equipment suppliers.) The Engineer must work
effectively with the equipment supplier to identify shortcomings, propose and
evaluate hardware modification to mitigate issues and operate the manufacturing
line in order to integrate the many individual steps necessary for the
manufacture of complex microprocessors. Module Engineers are also responsible
for overseeing in-situ ramp to manufacturing volumes to demonstrate that the
technology meets requirements while simultaneously transferring the technology
to counterparts in manufacturing via 'Copy Exactly!' methodology. Module
ownership includes the install and qualification of manufacturing capacity at
the development site and audit installation/qualification and supervision of
first full loop at the production site. Must hold a PhD.

Class are held at Georgia Tech and are typically on
Saturday mornings 10:30-12:30 or Sunday afternoons
4-6. Instructors will be provided with course materials and a curriculum.

The research involves activities such as sample preparation using automated equipment, analysis of samples by mass spectrometry, data processing and analysis, and presentation of results. The candidate will perform these tasks in compliance with CDC and CLIA policies and regulations, which requires record keeping activities and performing administrative tasks.
This fellowship will provide the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience in human exposure research as well as laboratory medicine, using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and procedures, working in a CLIA regulated environment, and in biomonitoring related public health activities.
We are seeking candidates at the Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. levels with a degree in science (Minimum GPA: 3.0) and experience in chemical and analytical laboratory work.
At the Doctoral level, the following skills are desired:
• The ability to conceive, organize and carry out applied research directed towards expanding scientific knowledge and understanding of human measurements of lipids and/or chemistry principles associated with clinical measurements.

Postdoctoral positions available at NREL in polymer chemistry and engineering

Both positions will be an integral part of a large, multidisciplinary team to produce renewable polymers from biomass-derived monomers. Polymer Chemist: We are seeking candidates for a post-doctoral researcher position to develop renewable polymers and composites from chemical products made from biomass. Unique monomers will be produced by biochemical and thermochemical conversion technologies and this new hire will be responsible for identifying and demonstrating synthetic routes to novel polymers that are of commercial interest. The researcher will work with a team of scientists and engineers to develop, optimize and scale up processes and will also work with industrial partners to insure commercial development.
A Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry with a strong emphasis on organic synthesis is required for this position. A familiarity with biomass and the chemistry of biomass conversion is desired.
Polymer Engineer: We are seeking additional candidates for a post-doctoral researcher position as part of the same project with an emphasis on polymer engineering. This new hire will be responsible for the design of new polymeric materials using the aforementioned monomers, testing of their physicochemical properties, and the implementation of new approaches for the design of novel polymer blends.
A Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field with a strong emphasis on polymer synthesis, design, and materials testing is required for this position.

The Protein Biomarker- Lipid Reference Laboratory at the National Center for Environmental
Health, CDC is performing research in the areas of human biomonitoring and chronic disease
biomarkers. This research involves the development of analytical methods to measure
biomarkers such as steroid hormones, lipids, and trans-fatty acids, which have been linked with
chronic disease. Information obtained from this research will be used to determine the extent of
exposure in the population as well as to identify normal ranges for chronic disease biomarkers.
Findings will be used to help to identify population subgroups with increased exposure or risk,
and to assess possible associations between exposure, risk, and health effects.

A postdoctoral position is available for an organic chemist to work on multi-step synthesis of mostly
nitrogenous small molecules on a multigram scale in the Drug Design and Synthesis Section, NIDA
Intramural Research Program, Rockville, MD. Our major research direction is the elucidation of the
structure and function of neurotransmitter systems in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS)
in normal, drug-altered, and pathological states and the molecular mechanism of action of CNS active
drugs. Organic/medicinal chemistry is the foundation of the multidisciplinary approach utilized in these
studies that requires the rational design and chemical synthesis of novel agonists, antagonists,
imaging agents, affinity ligands, and other drugs for particular applications.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree and synthetic chemistry experience. Interest in the chemical synthesis of complex organic molecules, optical resolution of racemates, and crystallization, is required, as well as the desire to collaborate with colleagues in various pharmacological and other diverse scientific disciplines.

A postdoctoral position is available for an organic chemist to work on multi-step synthesis of mostly
nitrogenous small molecules on a multigram scale in the Drug Design and Synthesis Section, NIDA
Intramural Research Program, Rockville, MD. Our major research direction is the elucidation of the
structure and function of neurotransmitter systems in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS)
in normal, drug-altered, and pathological states and the molecular mechanism of action of CNS active
drugs. Organic/medicinal chemistry is the foundation of the multidisciplinary approach utilized in these
studies that requires the rational design and chemical synthesis of novel agonists, antagonists,
imaging agents, affinity ligands, and other drugs for particular applications.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree and synthetic chemistry experience. Interest in the chemical synthesis of complex organic molecules, optical resolution of racemates, and crystallization, is required, as well as the desire to collaborate with colleagues in various pharmacological and other diverse scientific disciplines.

Description:
Ashland is seeking to hire an NMR Staff Scientist. In this position you will be responsible for
the structural analysis of cellulose ethers and related polymers, collaborating
and conducting independent polymer
structural research in support of company’s R&D projects, and supporting
technical service requests, pilot and commercial plant operations, and intellectual
property protection. You will lead research projects in developing and
validating NMR methodologies in support of structural and compositional
analysis of complex macromolecular systems and provide structure-property
relationships along with maintaining a safe working environment in the lab and
comply with all environmental, health and safety requirements. This position is located in Wilmington, DE.
Qualifications:
* A PhD or
equivalent degree in Chemistry, polymer science or material
science, or a
related field with at least 2-5 years experience in
NMR
spectroscopy
* Strong
interpersonal and communication skills
* Proven ability
in executing independent research projects
* Strong
background in solution NMR and multidimensional NMR
* Experience
with polymer NMR a plus
* Knowledge of
other analytical characterization techniques including
FT-IR, Mass
spectrometry, GPC/SEC and rheology
* Must have hands-on experience operating NMR
spectrometers and
routine
maintenance.
