The Arnold O. Beckman
Postdoctoral Fellows Program is intended to support postdoctoral scholars with
the highest potential for success in an independent academic career in chemistry
and the life sciences, and to assist in their transition from “mentored yet
independent” postdoctoral to an independent, tenure-track position. Nearly all
successful academic careers in science at present begin with a postdoctoral
period of additional training and development prior to the first tenure tract
appointment. These individuals are expected to become the next generation of
leaders and innovators in science, engineering, and technology.
The program requires
the identification of both a candidate and an institutional mentor who will
provide support the postdoctoral candidate throughout his or her
fellowship. Awarded fellows are required to spend full-time, 100% effort
on the project outlined in the fellows application.
