2014-2015 Fall Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Award

Thermo Fisher Scientific is offering our future science scholars an opportunity to win $10,000 in scholarship funding for the 2014-2015 Fall semester. This scholarship was created to help provide educational opportunities for the future generation of scientists. Graduate students or undergraduate students must be enrolled in an accredited college for the 2014-2015 Fall semester to qualify for this scholarship. A pre-selected committee will award two $10,000 scholarships and four $5,000 scholarships among the candidates.

Scholarship Award Criteria:

• - Candidate must be enrolled as a graduate or undergraduate student at an accredited college or university for
     the 2014-2015 Fall semester
• - Candidate must have a declared major of Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related life science field
• - Graduate students must have received a cumulative undergraduate GPA of > 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• - Graduate students should be maintaining a GPA of > 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during Graduate School
• - Sophomores and Juniors must have a cumulative college GPA of > 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• - Freshman must have a cumulative high school GPA of > 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• - Candidates must complete an application & submit unofficial transcripts [if selected, an official transcript will be required]

Alfred R. Bader Award for Student Innovation

We are pleased to invite Georgia Tech Chemistry and Biochemistry students to participate in the 2014 Aldrich Alfred R. Bader Award for Student Innovation. This was formerly known as the Graduate Student Innovation Awards, or GSIA program; however, as part of Alfred Bader's 90th birthday celebration, we have rechristened the program to honor the founder of Aldrich.  We are aiming to host the awards presentation and visit in mid-August.

As you might remember from previous years, we are seeking applicants who have completed at least 3 full years of graduate work in the field of synthetic chemistry or chemical biology.  The applicants must be able to attend and make a presentation on her/his graduate research at the Award Symposium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which is tentatively scheduled for August 21, 2014.  We are not restricting the number of applicants from any one institution, but we are limiting entries to the first 200 submissions, so please make sure all qualifying candidates from your department are notified.

I have attached a two-sided flyer which outlines this year’s program and contains the official entry form on the back.  Also attached is the template for students to submit their research summaries.  I can provide the official rules for the Alfred Bader Award program to anyone on request.

Students may apply for a Fulbright during the senior undergraduate year or during graduate school and prior to completing PhD research.

Students should be working with the Fellowships Office now to prepare for the August campus deadline to apply for grants during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Fulbright awards are available for research, graduate study, or to be an English Teaching Assistant.                                  http://us.fulbrightonline.org/

A letter of invitation is needed for research and graduate study, and awards are available in more than 140 countries. English Teaching Assistant (ETA) applications do not require an invitation.

Applicants must be US citizens.

Presenters include Dr. Tom Wall (CE) who held an EU Fulbright and two students who are current applicants who will discuss the Fulbright application procedure.
