The Department of Chemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics invites nominations and applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor in Chemistry. Georgia Southern University (www.georgiasouthern.edu), a member institution of the University System of Georgia and a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University, is one of Georgia’s premier universities. The nearly 700-acre park-like campus is located in Statesboro, a classic Main Street community near historic Savannah and Hilton Head Island.
Within this setting, the Department of Chemistry offers a modern chemistry program leading to B.S. and B.A degrees certified by the American Chemical Society. With over 500 chemistry majors, the Department ranks in the top 25 producers of ACS-certified B.S. chemistry majors nationwide. This position will contribute in student-centered classroom and broad-based laboratory instruction for our students.
Position Description. Reporting to the Chemistry Department Chair, the Visiting Assistant Professor requires teaching responsibilities as well as an MS or PhD in Chemistry. The Visiting Assistant Professor in Chemistry will be responsible for a workload of 18 hours per semester in teaching core chemistry courses for majors and non-majors and other duties as specified by the Chemistry Department Chair. The position is a 9-month, non-tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The faculty member will be appointed to an annual contract.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must hold an earned M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry with a minimum of 18 hours of chemistry graduate education by the starting date. Evidence of a commitment to teaching; ability to teach undergraduate chemistry courses and laboratories; ability to work with diverse populations; and effective communication skills in spoken and written English are also required.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of 2 years of college/university teaching.
