Job Opportunity in Puerto Rico-Polymer Chemistry


PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST - (PRODUCT AND MATERIALS SCIENCE)
As a Product and Materials Principal Scientist, successful applicants will have the opportunity to take part in strategic raw material, process, and product development programs.  In addition, successful applicants will participate in the transfer of new products and processes from the multi-national corporate R&D organization and lead the full implementation into the manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
·         To provide appropriate technical expertise to all aspects of raw material, product, and process verification and introduction as part of the company’s overall design control procedure.
·         Provide the appropriate chemical and materials knowledge capabilities in new product development and improvement projects, ensuring that appropriate technology is used to bring commercially successful products to market.
·         Responsible for keeping abreast of the latest chemical and lens material product developments, evaluating their potential impact on the business and recommending their incorporation into the current and future product lines.
·         Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary teams engaged on above activities.

Required qualifications:
·         PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering.
·         Background in chemical synthesis and processing, polymer synthesis and processing, and/or materials properties.
·         Experience and demonstrated expertise in analytical chemistry and materials characterization techniques and method validation.  For example:
    • Gas and Liquid Chromatography
    • Gel permeation Chromatography
    • Multi-nuclear NMR
    • Thermo-gravimetric Analysis
    • Differential Scanning Calorimeter
    • Rheology
    • Ultraviolet and Infrared Spectroscopy
·         Experience in relevant related industrial technical roles strongly preferred.
·         Experience in a medical devices/ pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred.
·         Good knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems in the medical device/pharmaceutical industries within FDA, ISO and International regulatory environments.
·         Good knowledge of Health and Safety.
·         Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
·         Strong project management skills.
·         Strong documentation skills.
·         Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels of a corporate organization. 
·         Highly motivated, self-starter, and responsible person.
·         Adaptable and flexible, with openness to change. Determination to see tasks through to their successful conclusion.
·         Self-reliant, dependable, steady under pressure and team oriented.
·         Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects in a calm manner and confident with varying demands of 24/7 manufacturing processes.
·         Enthusiastic, approachable, well organized, conscientious and innovative.
·         Must be able to give clear direction, communicate expectations, and provide feedback all levels of personnel.
·         Ability to work overtime and weekends when necessary.

All candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, computer literate and be willing to travel.
