CETL Job Announcement-10 positions!

Georgia Tech’s Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning
(CETL) seeks 10 motivated graduate students to work as Teaching
Assistant (TA) Fellows for May 2012 through August 2012. This is an
outstanding opportunity for any graduate student who is considering a
faculty or teaching career who seeks opportunities to learn more about
teaching and learning and get experience in presenting and facilitating.

TA Fellows will work over the summer with CETL staff and the team of
TA Fellows to design workshops for campus-wide TA orientations that TA
Fellows will facilitate in August.

Hours:
Expected time commitment is about 35 total hours total between May and August and about a 5-hour additional commitment sometime during Fall 2012 or Spring 2013 (see below).

All TA Fellows will facilitate at the fall Graduate New TA Orientation (Aug 17). All Fellows will also help facilitate one of the following events that take place between August 2012 and February 2013: a panel for the International TA Orientation, the Fall Undergraduate New TA Orientation, spring All New TA Orientation, make-up TA Orientation (for fall or spring), or facilitate one of the monthly campus-wide CETL TA workshops.

There will be regularly scheduled meetings of all TA Fellows over the summer. These meetings will be used to develop workshops, get feedback on workshops, and practice workshops with the TA Fellow team & CETL staff.  The dates for these meetings are:

IMPORTANT: All applicants must be able to commit to the aforementioned dates and to
August 17 (the date of the campus-wide TA Orientation).

Compensation:
A stipend will be awarded at the end of August in the amount of $750. The TA Fellow position does NOT come with a tuition waiver.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
Doctoral (Ph.D.) student
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
Ability to work effectively both individually and collaboratively
Competency with Microsoft Office
Prior teaching experience as a TA at Georgia Tech
Completed CETL 8803 A, CETL 8802/3 TL, CTEL 8000, the STEP/SLIDER Program OR has attended at least 2 teaching-related workshops hosted by CETL (or equivalent).
Personal interest in teaching and learning, perhaps as part of a career path
Must be available on ALL of the dates listed in the "hours" section above.

In the cover letter, explain why you are interested in working for CETL, what you think you could bring to the position in terms of skills and/or experience, and please indicate your understanding that you must be available on the dates listed in the "hours" section above. Also, please include your schedule and/or availability for an interview between March 14th and April 1st.
